Mangaluru: Prathik S Nayak from Mangaluru secured the first rank for engineering in the Common Entrance Test (CET), and also topped the B Pharma and Pharma D category.
A student of Expert PU College, he scored 98.889% in the test, results of which were announced on Tuesday. The CET is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority.
Prathik is now looking forward to the results of the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced). While CET determines admissions to professional courses in Karnataka, JEE is written by students aspiring to study at the Indian Institutes of Technology and other national centres.
Prathik is keen on computer science or mechanical engineering, and hopes to get into an IIT. “Studying was not stressful for me as I enjoyed it. In the last two years, I have focused on academics, studying three to four hours every day,” he said.
His comprehensive score, calculated on the basis of 50% of the board exam and 50% of CET results, is 99.278%.
Prathik scored 578 out of 600 in his second pre-university exams and secured the 13th rank in Comed-K. His parents were sure he would secure one of the top 10 CET ranks.
Sumanth Hegde, a student of VVS Sardar Patel PU College, Bengaluru, has secured the second rank in CET engineering, though he wasn’t aiming for it.
“I want to get admission in either IIT-Bombay or IIT-Madras. In the past two years, I focused solely on preparing for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and put everything else on the back burner,” he told DH.
Sumanth said getting the basic concepts right helped him score 98.333% in CET and arrive at a total score of 99.167%. He had scored 586 out of 600 in his pre-university exams.
Chemistry buff
Anirudh Sunder Raj was in Mumbai when he received the news about securing the third rank in CET engineering. He was taking part in a selection camp to represent the country at the International Chemistry Olympiad in July in Thailand.
“I was aiming for a rank better than the fourth since that was the highest in my college in the past, so I am happy with the result,” the student of RV PU College said.
Anirudh wants to get into IIT-Madras and prepared several months for JEE-Main. He scored 97.778% in CET and his total score is 98.723%.
