Mangaluru: One of the two youths who assaulted a police constable and a home guard during the night of 4th September, Monday near Deralakatte here was arrested by the police.
The arrested youth has been identified as Izaz from Ullal Mukkacheri. The other youth is absconding and search is on for him.
According to the sources, Police constable of Konaje station, Prem, and a home guard volunteer Ramesh had stopped Izaz at Deralakatte Junction who was riding a motor bike with a pillion rider towards Natekal on Monday.
The reason for stopping him was that the motor bike did not have a headlight. However, it was found during the check that the bike didn’t even have a number plate. When the duo was asked to produce vehicle registration documents, they threatened the police, pushed them aside, attacked them and fled from the spot.
The constable Prem is getting treatment at a hospital. Although Izaz was nabbed by police personnel on patrol duty, search is on for the other culprit.
A case has been registered at Konaje police station.
