Mangaluru: Srinivas group of colleges faced the ire of group of Muslim students on Saturday when the students boycotted classes and staged a demonstration at the entrance gate of the institution at Valachil, in protest against the alleged attempt by the college authorities to suppress the religious rights of Muslims.

The protesters accused that the college authorities did not permit Muslim girls to observe Hijab (covering whole body except face and hands) and Muslim boys to grow beard. Both male and female Muslims students of Srinivas College of Pharmacy and Srinivas Institute of Nursing Science took part in the protest organised by the Campus Front of India.

The protesters also expressed their discontent against the college for not increasing the duration of lunch break on Fridays to allow Muslim students to attend the Friday prayers. Parents of some of the students also took part in the protest.
