Mangaluru: Six persons were killed and seven others injured when a KSRTC bus ran over people waiting at a bus shelter near Thalpady toll gate in Ullal taluk, close to Mangaluru.
The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon around 1:30 pm when the bus reportedly suffered a brake failure, lost control, and rammed into the bus shelter, running over passengers.
According to sources, five people died on the spot, while one succumbed to injuries after being shifted to the hospital. The deceased include four women and one man. Some of the victims were reportedly sitting inside an autorickshaw parked near the bus shelter, while others were waiting at the shelter. CCTV footage shows the bus reversing uncontrollably, crashing into the shelter and hitting the autorickshaw.
The victims have been identified as autorickshaw driver Haider Ali (47), Avamma, wife of Abdul Khader from Farangipet, Khadija (60) from Ajjinadka, her sister Nafeesa (52), Hasna, daughter of Shahul Hameed from the same locality, and Ayesha Fida (19).
