Mangaluru: In a tragic turn of events, three among the eight engineering students who went to swim in river Netravati drowned, while the others were rescued.
The incident occurred on 4th September, Monday at Nadugudde in Innoli near Konaje.
The deceased have been identified as Vishal (21 yrs), Shubam (22 yrs) and Sri Ram (21 yrs). They were washed away by the currents.
According to sources, eight students of a private engineering college at Valachil near here had come to swim in the river. However, it was learnt that they had ignored warning given by the boatman Samad, who had warned them against entering the river as water level was high.
While Vishal, Shubam and Sri Ram were washed away by the currents, the remaining students identified as Rohith (21 yrs) from Belagavi, his brother, Abhijay (20 yrs), Vikhyath (21 yrs) from Madoor Beeri in the taluk, Indresh (20 yrs) from Sullia Guthigar and Royson Goveas from Sullia Beeramangala were rescued by the locals.
Although the body of one of the three youths has been found, the search operation is on for the remaining two students.
