Sirsi: Assistant Commissioner K Raju Mogaveer has stated that in terms to create awareness among the people of the town in terms of cleanliness and hygiene, a cleanliness drive has been launched in the town. As part of ‘Swachha Sirsi Abhiyan’, a marathon will be conducted on October 3, he added.
He noted this while speaking after releasing the pamphlets of marathon here on Sunday.
He said, it is only possible to maintain cleanliness across the town when people irrespective of their age and community join hands in cleanliness campaign. The City Municipal Council has launched a cleanliness drive from September 24 and so far, along with the municipal workers and staff members, cleanliness works have been taken up at Vikasashrama, Musukina Bavi, water purification unit, Jayanagar Garden and other places, he said and added that this would be continued till October 8. The taluk panchayat has implemented this programme in all the village panchayats in the taluk.
A five-kilometre long marathon will be organised on October 2, at 7:00 am from Marikamba District Stadium to Bidakibail. The aim of the marathon is to create awareness about cleanliness among the public. Members and employees of Forest College, Horticulture College, Government First Garde College, Scouts & Guides, Runner 360, various departments and local organisations will take part in the event, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Sirsi Jeevajala Karyapade president Shrinivas Hebbar said, task force take up cleanliness activities from Yellapur Naka to Chipagi Circle. The Lions Club conducted the cleanliness camp from Ashwini Circle to Yellapur Naka on Monday. Earlier, pamphlets were distributed in the town.
Since 2016, the Rotary Club is organising the cleanliness drive on October 2. This time, a special programme has been initiated. A total of 14 teams have been formed, which includes all members. A team of eight members will look after the cleanliness works in each ward, said Rotary Club’s Hastimul Chowdhary and Shirnivas Naik.
Red Ant Association’s Mahesh Naik said that their organisation would extend needed support and help in this regard.
