Honnavar: Fire blazes after goods van hits electric pole at Manki NH66: 1 dies

Honnavar: One person was killed on the spot when a goods van he was driving hit a electric pole, that resulted in blazing flame due to high voltage electric shock, which caused instant death of driver after the fire combusted him completely.

The incident took place on Manki NH66 in the early afternoon around 2:30pm of 16th October, Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Qasim Abdul Khader (42), a resident of Baggon in Kumta. 

Official sources said that, the incident occurred when a speedy goods van was on the way towards Kumta from Bhatkal. Initially, the goods van collided with passenger auto rickshaw, which inturn after loosing balance went on to collide with electric pole.

Regarding the deceased Qasim, it is said that he was employed for around 17 years in Saudi Arabia, after which he was employed in Kumta from last 4 years. He was presently employed with the IRB Company, which is under taking the work of National Highway and the mini lorry which underwent the accident also belonged to the same company, it is said.. He is survived with a wife and one daughter. As the information was received, his in-laws from Murdeshwar and family members from Kumta rushed to Honnavar government hospital, where the post mortem was conducted.

His body was brought to his residence at Kumta, after which he was buried at Kumta Muslim grave yard. Many friends and relatives were present at his home to pay their last respect.

In this regard, a case has been registered in Manki police station limits and further investigations are on.
