Kundapur: In a recent episode of moral policing, a college student was beaten up by a group of thugs after being verbally abused. The youth reportedly replied to a question by his female class fellow noticing which the gang beat him up.

Speaking to SahilOnline on phone, the student named Akif who is admitted to a hospital in Kundapur narrated his story saying that after writing his exams when he came out of the college, one of his classmates asked him how he had done the paper. She moved on her way after he answered her, but soon after that a group of around five to six ABVP activists came to him and started interrogating. They abused him verbally asking why he had spoken to a Hindu college girl. Akif told them that the girl was his class fellow and was speaking to him only regarding the exam. Hearing this one among the gang identified as Shrikanth Sherugar, aged about 20 years, started thrashing him and threatened to send him to Pakistan.

Interestingly, the entire scene of violence has been captured in a CCTV camera installed outside the college.

As soon as the news was received, a team belonging to Campus Front of India (CFI) immediately rushed Akif to the local hospital and later approached the Kundapur police taking the CCTV footage from the college along with them.

The team of Campus Front of India reached the Kundapur Police station and after showing the CCTV footage, registered a complaint against the ABVP activist Shrikanth.

The president of CFI Kundapur, Mr. Fahad has informed that Shrikanth has fled away after beating Akif. According to him, Srikanth was involved in beating Muslim students of the college a number of times, but never was any action taken against him. He ascertained that they would not let him go this time. ‘Police has assured us that Shrikath who has fled away would be arrested by Tuesday morning’, he added.

Mr Fahad has cautioned that if the police failed to arrest Shikanth and take immediate legal action against him, the CFI would hold strong protest at Kundapur.
