Ten hurt as lorry rams KSRTC bus in Bhatkal; misses a huge tragedy

Bhatkal: More than ten people were injured when a lorry rammed into a KSRTC bus near Gorte cross on Bhatkal-Mangalore National Highway on Monday evening around 8:30pm.

According to sources, the incident took place when both the vehicles were in high speed. The bus was on its way towards Hubli from Subramanya, while the  lorry was going to Mangaluru from Bhatkal when both the vehicles collided head on. Due to the mishap, two passengers travelling on the bus were said to be in serious condition, while the remaining 11 passengers received multiple injuries. A baby was also among injured, who sustained grievous injuries on its head and was immediately admitted to the Bhatkal Govt. Hospital.

It was told that the lorry driver immidiately fled from the spot soon after the accident.

The two seriously injured passengers have been identified as Dayanand from Uppunda and Malikarjun Shivamma Gaudar. Both were rushed to Kundapur Hospital after initial treatment at Bhatkal Govt Hospital. The child who is injured is identified as Manjunath Bhandari.

A case has been registered at Bhatkal police station and further investigations are on.
