Udupi: A sad incident took place on the evening of 30th May, Tuesday, where women along with her two daughters went drowning into a pond located at Delattu village in Belur of Kota, Kundapur in Udupi district.
The deceased were identified as Bharati Shetty (42), and her daughters Prithvi (21) and Prajna (19).
Sources said that the Bharati had been to the pond near their house where she had soaked a jute bag full of paddy seeds for sprouting. As the pond was filled up with silt, Bharati slipped and drowned while trying to pull the paddy bag out of the pond. Observed this by her two daughters, rushed to the spot and tried to rescue their mother. But sadly, their efforts failed and claimed the life of daughters too.
The incident came to light when one of the bodies was found floating in the pond water. All the three bodies were searched and recovered from the pond and sent to post mortem.
About the daughters, it was said that Prithvi was a student of final year degree in SMS college Brahmawar, while Prajna was in first-year degree at Bhandarkar college in Kundapur.
A case has been registered in Kota police station.
