Kumta: In a tragic road accident, a motorist was killed on the spot after the bike in which he was riding in was knocked by the speeding Oil-tanker on NH66 near Honmav in the outskirts of the town on Friday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Shashidhar Harikant, a resident of Kalbag in Kumta taluk.

The impact of collision was such that the rider came underneath the wheels of the tanker and sustained severe head injuries, to which he succumbed on the spot. Eyewitness said that the Reckless and negligent driving of the tanker caused the mishap to take place. 

Fearing the incident, tanker driver went absconding immediately after the accident. Police have already spread their networks in search of the driver. Traffic movement on the highway was stuck for a while at the time of accident.

A case stands registered in Kumta police station.
