Mangaluru: Principal Secretary to the Government of the Labour Department, Mohammed Mohsin, has addressed concerns regarding the lack of facilities for outsourced employees in government offices.
Speaking at the Zilla Panchayat hall on Monday while reviewing the progress of the labor department in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, he suggested holding departmental officers accountable for the non-provision of facilities by outsourcing agencies.
Numerous complaints have been lodged about outsourcing agencies failing to provide PF (Provident Fund) and ESI (Employee State Insurance) benefits to employees working in government offices. Many cases involve agencies not adhering to the Minimum Wages Act when paying salaries. The outsourcing agency typically deducts PF and ESI amounts from the employees' salaries, but instances of improper payment by agencies have been reported. Consequently, outsourced employees are being denied essential labor facilities.
Mohammed Mohsin proposed that government office officials, when settling bills with outsourcing agencies, should ensure mandatory verification of the previous month's record of PF and ESI payments for staff. He urged secretaries to communicate this requirement to all departmental offices.
