Mundgod: One person was arrested and his vehicle was seized by police after he was caught red-handed involved in illegal smuggling of teakwood from Kaatur forest limits of Mundgod taluk on the early night of 15th September, Thursday.
Around 11PM in the night, a team led by forest authorities caught a Mahindra goods vehicle into which no proof based teakwood were loaded. The estimated cost of the woods is expected more than one lakh rupees.
The accused has been identified as Fakkiresh Hanumanthappa Palekar (25), a resident of Kalghatagi. After further investigations, much information related to the accused are awaited from forest authorities.
A team led by RFO Tenginamani, Forest officer Anand Poojara, Shrishaila, forest rescuers participated in a raid.
