NC-Congress alliance secures majority in Jammu & Kashmir, set to form govt in first elections since 2014

Srinagar: The National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance is set to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir after securing a majority in the first assembly elections held since 2014. The alliance crossed the required 46-seat threshold, winning 49 seats in total.

The NC emerged as the dominant party, securing 42 seats, while the Congress won six seats, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) gained one seat. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) performed strongly in the region, winning 29 seats, while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) took three. Seven Independents were also victorious, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Jammu & Kashmir People’s Conference won one seat each.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the NC for its electoral success and praised the significance of the elections. He also commended BJP's performance in Jammu and Kashmir, expressing gratitude to voters and vowing to continue working for the region's welfare.

Omar Abdullah, leader of the NC, thanked PM Modi for his well-wishes and expressed hopes for a productive relationship with the central government moving forward.
