Kumta: The National Highway Authority will soon take up road upgradation works, which connect Ankola-Kumta-Sirsi taluks. According to the project, concrete roads will be constructed using reserved funds of Rs 370 crore from the authority.

Speaking to media in this regard, road construction project director Colonel A K Janbhag said, there will be heavy rainfall from Deevagi in Kumta till the Western Ghat regions in Sirsi, due to which, roads will get damaged very frequently on these roads and repairing them will take time too. Hence, instead of taking up repair works, complete concertised roads will be laid, he added.

However, it has been expected that once after the initiation of construction of roadworks, nearly it will take two years for the accomplishment of works. During this period, the vehicle movement between Sirsi and Kumta will be disconnected completely. By doing so, people will face problems to connect with Sirsi taluk, which is popularly known as a major commercial town in the district.

A few years, concrete roads have been constructed at Devimane ghat section in Kumta taluk and Bandalghatta in Sirsi. Discussions are being held to improve the road conditions from Sirsi, Kumta via Ankola Deevagi till Belekeri in Ankola.

The concrete road will be constructed from Sirsi to Deevagi. From there, a four-lane road construction is ongoing.

He said, the RNS Builders and Gayathri Construction companies will jointly launch the concrete roadworks, where the present road will be widened from 5.5 metres to 10 metres.

Within two years, the construction works will be completed. Till then it will be inevitable to use alternative ways like Kumta-Siddapur, Ankola-Yallapur to reach Sirsi, he added.
