Bhatkal: A passenger was killed and 20 others were injured, nine of them seriously, after a private luxury bus overturned on National Highway 52 near Kanchinabagilu in Ankola taluk, around 70 km from here, early on Saturday.

 

The deceased has been identified as Sharanayya (42), a native of Andhra Pradesh. 

 

The bus was travelling from Hyderabad to Goa with 36 passengers on board when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn in the middle of the highway."

 

According to sources, nine of the injured sustained serious head and chest injuries.

 

The overturned bus blocked the highway, leading to major traffic disruption. However, police personnel from Ankola, along with emergency responders and local residents, rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations soon after the accident.

 

The injured were initially shifted to the Ankola Government Hospital. Of them, nine with serious injuries were later referred to the Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences (KRIMS) for advanced treatment.

 

A case has been registered at the Ankola Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
