Haliyal: A 25-year-old worker was killed and two more workers were injured when an electrical panel accidentally fell on them while they were fixing it at EID Parry Sugar factory, in Haliyal, on Thursday evening.

The deceased was identified as Raghavendra Parshuram Gowda of Muttalmuri village, in Haliyal taluk. Manjunath Vattalli of Motebennur in Haveri district and Ramesh N of Davangere, injured in the incident, were admitted to a private hospital in Dharwad.

The accident took place when the workers of the electrical department of the factory were fixing an electric panel and accidentally, the panel fell down.

Following the accident, family members of the victims and the villagers staged a protest near the taluk hospital expressing ire against the sugar factory.

Later, a meeting was held between Tahsildar Vidyadhar Gulguli along with factory head Divyaraj Pillai and office-bearers of sugarcane growers’ association and that resulted in the the protest getting diluted. 

Haliyal police have registered a case in this regard and are investigating.
