Karwar: The State Legislative Minority & Backward Classes Welfare Committee which called a meeting to review the progress and implementation of government schemes in Uttara Kannada district expressed its anguish over the attitude of officials, with committee members walking out of the meeting.
Irked over the officials for delay in arriving at the meeting hall, the committee members led by Chairman J R Lobo walked out of the hall.
The members had arrived on time but a few officials arrived late to the meeting hall. Questioning their casual attitude, the Committee members took additional deputy commissioner H Prasanna and Zilla Panchayat in-charge chief executive officer Chandrashekar Nayak to task.
“When government has been spending around Rs 50 lakh to convene such a meeting, what would be the use of holding a meeting just for name sake? It would be better call off the meeting,” Committee members Mankal Vaidya said. Chairman J R Lobo said the committee had held meetings in many district but nowhere had they lost patience. The committee had expected discipline in the coastal district, but expectations were shattered, he said.
Additional deputy commissioner H Prasanna informed them that in spite of being notified about the meeting, a few members arrived late. He apologized to the committee for the same.
A piqued Lobo announced that the meeting was off and this would be brought to the notice of assembly Speaker and chief secretary.
Committee members Satish Sail, M D Lakshminarayana, Satish Jarkiholi, S Angara, Gopal Pujari and K Abdul Jabbar were present on the occasion.
