Bhatkal: A police constable's house was robbed by two unidentified men at Police quarters in Sagar Road, Bhatkal on Friday late night.
According to sources, the incident took place when Sangmesh, a police constable at Bhatkal rural police station was on night duty.
It is said that the wife of the police, phone called Sangmesh at around 10:30 PM on Friday and informed him about the constant barking of dogs outside their house, but the constable Sangmesh ignored her and told his wife that those were used to bark always. But on the same night around 12:30 AM, someone knocked the door. The wife, hoping her husband might have returned from duty, opened the door of the house. Shockingly, two unknown men face covered with masks entered the house at knifepoint. They directly approached the cupboard, opened it and robbed gold ornaments worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs to 3 lakhs.
It has been reported that robbers have fled with Gold Jewelry including Mangalsutra, earrings and gold rings.
A dog squad and fingerprint experts from Karwar reached Bhatkal and arrived at the constable's house and investigated.
A case has been registered at Bhatkal town police station.
