Kundapur: A raid was conducted by the Kundapur rural police, where 27 cattles were seized in Karikudru at Varahi Bridge of Gulwadi village as they were being transported in a pick-up vehicle late on 20th July, Thursday night.
According to the police, they rescued 11 cows and 15 oxen from the truck, while one cattle was already dead due to suffocation. Their legs were tied and they were being transported in a cramped condition.
The raid was made acting on a tip-off as a police team stopped the mini truck and rescued the cattle that were being transported, allegedly for slaughter.
The traffickers went absconding and are charged under sections 8, 9 and 11 of Karnataka Cow Slaughter Prevention Act and Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
A case has been registered at Kundapur rural police station, while the cattle have now been shifted to a cow protection centre in Asodu village.
