Mangaluru: A protest was staged by members of various organizations demanding closure of toll plaza on NH-66 at Surathkal on 21st September, Thursday near the toll plaza.

The protest was led under the aegis of DYFI State President Muneer Katipalla and members of DYFI, CPM, Vehicle Owners' Association, Goods Lorry Owners and Drivers' Association participated in it.

The distance between the toll plaza at Surathkal and the one at Hejamady is 10 km, while the distance between two plazas must be at least 50 km”, said activist Muneer Katipalla, while addressing the protesters.

“Although the NHAI had assured to close the toll plaza at Surathkal after the one at Hejamady starts operating, both are functioning simultaneously. Hence, we demand for the closing of the toll plaza at Surathkal within 15 days period”, he added.
