Memorandum submitted seeking facilities to border region students in Karwar

Karwar: A memorandum was submitted by Janashakti Vedike president Madhav Nayak on Tuesday to Primary & Secondary Education Minister N Mahesh, and Legislative Council Pro-tem Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, seeking the government to provide better facilities for the students of State border region to prevent them from depending on the education facilities provided at the neighbouring State Goa.

He said, more than 300 students of Sadashivgad, Majali, Kolage, Asnoti, Hotegali, Gaongeri, Gotnibad, Devbag, and other surrounding villages in the taluk are studying in Marathi and English medium schools at Palolem, Panini and Canacona in Goa.

He also accused the concerned department officials for ignoring the issue even after it was brought to their notice. No measures have been taken so far to prevent this, and asked to initiative positive measures to attract the border region students towards Kannada medium schools.

He demanded the government to give first priority to the students of border regions, who studied in Kannada medium schools, in the government jobs.

Anganwadis should be run in nursery school model, teachers should be appointed based on requirement of each class in primary schools, housing facility should be provided to the teachers serving in rural areas.

He also urged to cancel the BPL cards of those families from the State but who are providing education to their children in Goa.

Leaders Suraj Kurumkar, Roopesh Naik, Rajeev Naik, Khairunnisa Shaikh, and others were present on the occasion.
