Mangaluru: A 32-year-old Vita Marina D'Souza took her own life by jumping into the Phalguni river near Sangabettu in Bantwal.

Her disappearance was noticed when locals found her two-wheeler abandoned on the Phalguni river bridge after she left home at 9 pm on Saturday night.

A search operation ensued, and her lifeless body was discovered near the Bahugrama drinking water dam on Sunday.

Vita Marina, wife of John Santosh D'Souza and a resident of Aerodi in Kukkipadi village, had recently reported a loss of Rs 21 lakh in a money doubling app.

Facing financial distress and the absence of children, she, unfortunately, succumbed to the pressures, casting a shadow over the Christmas celebration in her family.

Bantwal rural police station has registered a case.
