Bhatkal: Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights member Dr. KT Tappeswamy declared that no child labor or marriage cases have occurred. In a press conference, he highlighted a recent development review meeting with various departments, focusing on overall child safety.

Decisions from the meeting include installing police aid boards (1098 and 112) in educational institutions and hostels, emphasizing the implementation of the Karnataka State Child Protection Policy-2016. Recommendations involve forming children's clubs and establishing child protection committees at the school level, ensuring safety equipment provision.

The Panchayat Raj Department initiated a 10-week 'child-friendly panchayat campaign' from November 14 to January 24. Discussions centered on the celebration of the campaign by the 16 panchayats in Bhatkal taluk and efforts for success. Attention was given to forming women and children care committees and panchayat education teams.

Dr. Tappeswamy reported no child marriage cases in the taluka. While no child labor cases were recorded, seven POCSO cases were registered. Instructions were given to raise awareness among teachers and children through organized programs.

Personal visits by Dr. Tappeswamy to schools, hostels, and panchayats prompted the request for an action plan from concerned officers after a month.

Challenges such as student bus arrangements, water, sanitation, and hostel facilities were discussed. The commission will send a report to address shortages and recommend an increase in the 58-rupee allowance for two meals a day.

Additionally, the government mandated free electricity for schools and emphasized cleanliness.
