Bengaluru: Days after initially stating that the BJP would have an understanding with the former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda-led JD(S) for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, veteran leader and former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has now indicated that discussions on this matter have not reached a final decision yet.

Yediyurappa mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, who are currently occupied with other responsibilities, may take up the issue for discussion in the coming days. He mentioned that as of now, no official discussions have occurred, and they will have to wait for further developments.

Yediyurappa clarified his earlier statements, saying that when he initially spoke about the alliance, there was no finality in the discussions. He emphasized that there is still no final decision, and the matter is pending further deliberation. He expects that discussions involving Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah, and other leaders will likely take place in the next two to three days.

In his initial statement on Friday, Yediyurappa had announced that the BJP and JD(S) would have an understanding for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He mentioned that as part of this understanding, JD(S) would contest in four Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, which has a total of 28 constituencies. However, JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy clarified on Saturday that discussions about this potential alliance are still in the early stages.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP emerged victorious in 25 out of 28 seats in Karnataka, with one seat going to an independent candidate (Sumalatha Ambareesh, backed by the BJP), and the Congress and JD(S) winning one seat each.
