NEW DELHI: The Congress has announced a series of nationwide protests in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, which the party described as "disrespectful." Congress leaders will lead protest marches in all districts and conduct press conferences in 150 cities next week to demand Shah's resignation. The issue will also feature prominently at the upcoming Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Belagavi, marking Mahatma Gandhi's election as Congress president in 1924.

Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal revealed that the party will observe 'Ambedkar Samman Saptah' to emphasize what it calls the BJP's "negative approach" towards Ambedkar and the Constitution. "Our agitation demanding Amit Shah's resignation will continue as we fight to protect Dr. Ambedkar's legacy," Venugopal stated.

On December 22 and 23, Congress leaders, including MPs and senior figures, will hold press conferences at 150 locations nationwide. On December 24, party workers will organize district-level protest marches that will begin with garlanding Ambedkar's photograph and culminate in the submission of memorandums demanding Shah's resignation to the President through district collectors.

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera emphasized the significance of these demonstrations, stating that they symbolize the party’s commitment to safeguarding the values enshrined in the Constitution. The protests aim to highlight what the Congress sees as an affront to Ambedkar’s legacy and to counter attempts to undermine his contributions.
