New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal, who has resigned as Delhi's Chief Minister, announced his intention to "live among the common people" after vacating his official residence in Civil Lines within the next 15 days. This was shared by senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh at a press conference on Wednesday.

Singh emphasized that Kejriwal would relinquish all government benefits, including security details, a vehicle, and staff support. “Despite the privileges typically granted to a chief minister, Kejriwal has chosen to prioritize living among the citizens of Delhi,” he stated.

While details regarding Kejriwal's new living arrangements remain undisclosed, Singh noted that, as the leader of a national political party, he is eligible for government housing.

Addressing concerns about Kejriwal's safety, Singh mentioned the threats he has faced, particularly from members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). “We advised him that his official residence is crucial for both his role as chief minister and his personal safety. However, he is determined to move forward with his plan to live among the people, trusting in divine protection,” Singh explained.

"Kejriwal is not concerned about losing government perks. He has shown resilience, having endured challenging times, and believes he will be safe," he added.

The Delhi Chief Minister's residence has faced controversy in recent months due to corruption allegations, with the BJP labeling it a "Sheesh Mahal." Recently, ten officials from the Public Works Department were suspended amid claims of corruption linked to renovations at the residence.

Singh expressed confidence in the electorate, asserting that the people of Delhi will recognize Kejriwal’s integrity in the upcoming Assembly elections. Following his resignation on Tuesday, Kejriwal has appointed Atishi as his interim successor for the next five months until the elections take place.
