Bhatkal: Murdeshwar, a renowned tourist destination, is set to host the historic Mathsyamela-2024—the "Biggest Fish Fair"—from November 21 to 23. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar will inaugurate the event, which marks the first grand celebration of its kind in Coastal Karnataka. Over 5,000 species of fish will be showcased, with more than half a million visitors expected to attend. The announcement was made by Uttara Kannada district in-charge Minister and Minister of Ports, Fisheries, and Inland Water Transport, Mankal Vaidya, during a press conference held at the RNS Golf Club Resort.
Spectacular Exhibits and Unique Attractions
Coinciding with World Fisheries Day on November 21, which was traditionally celebrated in Bengaluru, this year’s event will be hosted on an unprecedented scale in Coastal Karnataka, benefiting hundreds of fishermen and the local community.
The fair will feature an awe-inspiring tunnel aquarium and an ornamental fish gallery, providing visitors a chance to explore hundreds of unique fish species. Sixty stalls will display a wide array of products and services from government and private institutions. Technical sessions will include discussions on cutting-edge fishing technologies and presentations by successful fishermen sharing their inspiring experiences.
Daily lunch will be arranged for over 5,000 attendees, while the evenings will feature cultural and musical performances by renowned Kannada artists, including music director Arjun Janya and popular anchor Anushree.
Promoting the Fisheries Sector
Highlighting the fair’s significance, Mankal Vaidya stated that the event aims to promote the growth and sustainability of the fisheries sector. It seeks to raise awareness among students and the younger generation about various fishing practices, species, and the sector’s vital role in coastal livelihoods.

Adding to the excitement, the fair will offer food stalls featuring an array of seafood delicacies, promising a feast for the senses. With vibrant cultural performances and a festive atmosphere, Mathsyamela-2024 is poised to deliver a memorable experience for attendees.
Grand Inauguration by Chief Minister
The event will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on November 21 at 4:00 PM. To facilitate their arrival, a helipad has been set up at the RNS Golf Club Resort in Murdeshwar.
