Ghaziabad: A devastating fire broke out in a residential building in Behta Hajipur, under the Loni Border police station area, on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuring two others. Police suspect that a short circuit caused the blaze.
Firefighters and police rushed to the scene and managed to rescue a woman and a child from the burning building, according to Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ankur Vihar Bhaskar Verma.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started due to a short circuit and rapidly spread to the first and second floors of the building.
The victims have been identified as Saiful Rehman (35), his wife Nazira (32), their daughter Isra (7), their 7-month-old son Faiz, and a relative, Farheen alias Parveen (25). The injured, Arsh (10) and Uzma (25), were taken to GTB Hospital in Delhi, where Arsh was later discharged.
