Mangaluru: A former panchayat development officer (PDO), deployed for election duty, allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison due to mounting 'mental pressure' at the DC office premises in Mangaluru. 

The deceased has been Identified as Sridhar Hegde.

He was ushed to Wenlock Hospital after ingesting the poison, Hegde's condition is reported stable under ICU observation. He was involved in the single window system at the DC office. Serving as Kadiru Udyavara Panchayat PDO since 2019, Hegde awaited reassignment since February, following a PDO transfer. 

CEO of DK Zilla Panchayat, Dr. Anandh K, Additional DC Dr. Santhosh Kumar, District Health Officer Dr. Thimmaiah, and others visited the hospital to support the family during this challenging time.
