Riyadh: A tragic car accident claimed the lives of four members of a Mangalorean family, including a 3-month-old infant, while they were traveling from Qatar to Madinah (Saudi Arabia) for Umrah. The accident occurred in Zulfa, on the outskirts of Riyadh, on Wednesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Hiba (29), daughter of Shameem and Zarina, residents of Haleangadi Thokur, near Mangalore; Hiba's husband Mohammed Rameez (34); and their children Aarush (3) and Raha (3 months).
Sources indicate that Hiba’s sister Shabnam’s daughter, Fatima (19), sustained severe injuries and is currently under treatment at a Riyadh hospital. Miraculously, Hiba’s sister Lubna’s son, Isa (4), who was also in the car, survived the accident without any injuries.
The family had set out for their Umrah pilgrimage after performing the Fajr Namaz on Tuesday, reaching Riyadh that night. They stayed at a family house in Riyadh and embarked on the final leg of their journey to Umrah on Wednesday morning.
Their journey took a tragic turn when their vehicle collided with a road divider at Zulfa, causing it to veer off the road and overturn. Rameez, Hiba, and one child were pronounced dead at the scene, while another child later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Fatima was seriously injured in the accident, but Isa was unharmed.
