Mangaluru: Activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested against a lecture by retired Delhi University professor Shamsul Islam at Mangalore University College on Saturday. The protest was held outside the college premises, where the lecture was being held. The ABVP activists raised slogans against Islam and the program, demanding that it be canceled.

The police intervened and detained more than 10 people who were protesting. The lecture was later held without any further disruption.

 Shamsul Islam is a well-known academic and writer who has been critical of the ABVP and its ideology in the past. His lecture at Mangalore University College was on the topic of "Communalism and Education."
