Mangaluru: The police successfully cracked the case of a stolen mangalsutra, leading to the arrest of two female thieves originally from Tamil Nadu.

Varija, a government employee, reported the loss of her 24-gram mangalsutra while boarding a bus, prompting a complaint with the Beltangady police.

Acting on a specific tip-off, SI Chandrashekhar and his team arrested Mohini (35), also known as Marimuthu, and Divya (30), also known as Kamachi, at the Dharmasthala bus stand on December 20. Both individuals, with a history of multiple cases, confessed during interrogation and returned the stolen mangalsutra.

The accused were presented before the magistrate in the evening and have been remanded to judicial custody.
