Mangaluru: Lawyers Stage Protest Against Police Brutality on Chikkamagaluru Advocate Pritam

Mangaluru: A protest was organized by the lawyers' association in Mangalore on Monday to condemn the case of police brutality against Advocate Pritam in Chikkamagaluru.

The lawyers demanded appropriate legal action against both the lawyers who protested in the court premises and the policemen who engaged in violence. They called for a thorough internal investigation within the department and insisted on providing protection to the lawyers involved.

Manoraj Rajeev, the vice president of the association and a senior lawyer, revealed that two days after the incident, the accused attackers filed a false case against the lawyer, accusing him of obstructing their duty. He criticized the police for disrupting law and order and interfering with the duties of the DySP. Rajeev urged the government to conduct an internal investigation into these matters and take appropriate action.

Senior advocate Shambhu Sharma also spoke at the protest, demanding legal action against those who committed atrocities and urging the implementation of the Lawyers' Protection Act.

Prithviraj Raimatanadi, the President of the Mangalore Bar Association, characterized this as an initial stage of the fight for justice. He warned that if justice is not served, the struggle will escalate in the coming days.

Secretary Sridhara addressing the gathering, while participants included Narasimha Hegde, T. Narayana Poojari, M. R. Ballal, B. Subbaya Rai, and others were present.
