Mangaluru: A person who found a lost mobile phone on December 3 is now under investigation for allegedly cheating the owner through unauthorized transactions on PhonePe.

Adyar, the victim, reported the loss of two mobile handsets while on his way to Kannur on a scooter. One of the phone's SIM cards was later activated, and a person claiming to have found it in Mangaluru's Padeel assured Adyar that he would return it in four days.

However, the individual failed to fulfill the promise, prompting Adyar to block the SIM and purchase a new one on December 12.

A complaint has been filed with the Kankanadi Nagar police station, accusing the unidentified person of transferring a substantial sum of Rs. 1.82 lakhs to various accounts through PhonePe. The police are now actively investigating this case of mobile-related fraud.
