Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District Muslim Okkoota is demanding compensation for the families of Nauseen Kudroli, 23, and Jaleel Bengre, 49. These individuals lost their lives in the police firing during a protest against the CAA and NRC in Mangaluru in 2019.

A delegation comprising Okkoota members and the bereaved families met with District Incharge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao to request compensation from the government.

K Ashraf, the president of Okkoota, emphasized that the families are entitled to compensation from the government.

Additionally, the delegation called for compensation for the family of Basheer, who was brutally murdered in Krishnapura in 2018 following the killing of Deepak Rao. Basheer was operating a fast food outlet in Kavoor. The murder was fueled by communal tensions, and the family has not received any compensation thus far.

Ashraf mentioned that he recently discussed the issue of compensation with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and urged him to provide compensation to the families affected by police firing as well as the family of Basheer.

Furthermore, he expressed gratitude to the state government for providing compensation to the families of Masood, Jaleel, Fazil, and Deepak Rao, who were victims of fatal attacks by miscreants in Dakshina Kannada. He criticized the previous BJP government for its failure to provide any compensation, stating that it was an injustice to those families.
