Karwar(DHNS): District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti said that the model code of conduct has come into effect in the district on Wednesday. To maintain transparency while dealing with complaints regarding the violation of the model code of conduct, they have prepared separate lists of development works pertaining to the district.

Speaking at a press conference in Karwar on Wednesday, Kavalikatti said that they have complete information about development works that have been approved by the government and have been initiated, works that have the required approvals but have not started, and those which do not have approvals.

“Works cannot be considered as initiated just because the elected representatives have performed Bhumi Puja. Only those works which started before the model code of conduct came into effect will be allowed to continue,” Kavalikatti explained.

Kavalikatti said that banners and buntings were removed across the district three days before the code of conduct came into effect. Police and Excise teams are keeping a watch on the check-posts.

Rs 10 lakh cash seized

He added that in the last ten days, Rs 10 lakh cash has been seized at Majali check-post. Illegal liquor worth Rs 40.75 lakh, jewellery worth Rs 7.50 lakh, and other materials worth Rs 69 lakh have been seized at various places in the district.

Kavalikatti added that postal ballot facility will be extended to people above 80 years of age and disabled. A meeting of representatives of various political parties has been held and necessary information has been given to them.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Iswar Kandoo, Superintendent of Police N Vishnuvardhana and Additional Deputy Commissioner Raju Mogaveer were present at the press conference.
