Bahraich: The Public Works Department (PWD) issued a demolition notice on Friday for the residence of Abdul Hameed, one of the accused in the recent Bahraich violence, citing illegal construction in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh.

According to media reports, Hameed, along with four others, is currently in judicial custody. Two of the accused, Mohammad Talim and Mohammad Sarfaraz, were injured in a police encounter on Thursday.

Various media sources indicate that the violence erupted following the death of Ramgopal Mishra, who appeared in a viral video climbing onto the roof of a house, removing a green flag, and replacing it with a saffron flag. Reports suggest Mishra was shot dead after this act, sparking clashes between two communities.

Earlier, Sarfaraz and Mohammad Talim were shot in the leg by Uttar Pradesh Police during an encounter while allegedly attempting to flee to Nepal.

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar stated that among the five arrested in connection with the Bahraich violence, two were injured during the encounter, while the other three were taken into custody. He added that the situation is now under control.

The recent incident has sparked a political debate between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition parties. The clashes broke out during a Durga idol immersion procession in Bahraich’s Mahasi area on Sunday, leading to the death of Ramgopal Mishra and injuries to several others.
