Mangalruu: Superintendent of Police Dr Vikram Amathe said that the district police will strengthen social media monitoring cell at the sub divisional-level in Puttur and Bantwal to keep a tab on provocative speeches and posts.

The SP, during an informal interaction with reporters at his chambers on Saturday, said a legal action will be taken against rumour-mongers engaged in spreading misleading information on social media that is aimed at disrupting law and order in the society.

Selected police personnel will be trained in monitoring social media and fact-checking. The purpose behind the provocative posts will be verified, he said.

An FIR will be registered against the provocative statements by verifying the background for such statements, he added.

“The immediate challenge is make preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections by keeping an eye on the offenders and trouble-mongers in the district by carrying out a special drive in the way of MOB parade, rowdy parade and so on,” the SP said. Further, the police will have zero tolerance towards organised crime that will have an impact on the law and order in the society, Vikram said.

‘’The police will also give stress on creating awareness on traffic rules,’’ the SP said and added that habitual traffic violators, especially those riding without helmets, will be identified and an awareness will be created among them by holding counselling sessions.

The police will give a priority to community policing by taking the confidence of public and various organisations, he said.

To a query on security for lone senior citizens living in a house and lone houses in interior villages, the SP said that beat system in the particular area will be strengthened.

On satellite phone calls, he said that intelligence wing, NIA, ANF and police are conducting a comprehensive probe into it. The police have taken the issue on the use of satellite phones inside the forest area seriously, he said.

On inter-state check posts at Sullia, Vittal and Puttur, Vikram said that the check posts have striking forces and CCTV.

“If anything needs to be improved at the check posts, then it will be brought to the notice of the deputy commissioner,” he added.

‘’On Friday evening, the police received information that boys and girls were near a bridge in Biliyoor in Uppinangady. Two young women, including a student, were found at the spot and were sent for medical examination. Their parents were called for verification. The police have decided to strengthen the beat system and increase patrolling of police in the area,’’ SP added.
