Mangaluru: A 17-year-old student athlete has died after consuming pesticide, allegedly due to disappointment over not winning a medal at a national-level sports meet.

The deceased, Nisha B M, was a first-year pre-university (PU) student at a college in Puttur. She was a promising athlete and had recently participated in a national-level sports meet in Bihar.

According to reports, Nisha was upset after returning from the event as she did not win a medal. On November 14, she started vomiting and informed her family that she had consumed pesticide.

She was rushed to a hospital in Puttur and later to Mangaluru. However, she failed to respond to treatment and died on November 25.

Police are investigating the case.
