Mangaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Mangaluru police arrested three people on Monday for allegedly possessing 900 grams of ambergris, a rare and valuable substance produced by sperm whales.

The arrested men are identified as Jayakara (39), Aditya (25) and Lohit Kumar Gurappanavar (39).

Acting on a tip-off, the CCB police raided a house in Panambur and seized the ambergris. The police said the ambergris was worth Rs 90 lakh in the international market.

A case have been booked under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
