Gokarna: A tourist boat sank in the backwater near Tadadi Mudangi on Sunday evening, but fortunately, all passengers escaped unharmed. The boat, carrying 42 tourists, overturned, submerging the passengers in the water. They were promptly rescued by a local boat and a Coast Guard Police boat. Some tourists swam to the shore.
The boat sank close to the shore, which allowed for a swift rescue and prevented a potential disaster. The tourists, including women, children, and youth from Hyderabad, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Hassan, lost their mobiles and other valuables in the incident.
Gokarna Police Inspector Yogesh K.M. and his staff, along with Coast Guard Police Force PSI Anup Nayak and his team, were present at the scene.
As it was Sunday, a large number of tourists had come for a sea tour. They planned to visit Halfmoon Beach and other locations and enjoy various water sports activities in a boat operated by Ganesh Ramesh Mudangi of Tadadi.
Speaking to the media, PSI Anup Nayak of the Coast Guard stated that they would file a complaint, conduct an investigation based on the passengers' statements, and take appropriate action.
Locals have expressed concern that tourist boats in the area operate without proper permissions or safety measures. They have urged the relevant authorities to take legal action to ensure the safety of tourists.
