Bhatkal: Many trees were uprooted and over 12 electric poles including 10 in Belni alone were damaged following heavy rain with gusty wind lashed across Bhatkal taluk on Tuesday.

According to HESCOM officials this unfortunate incident leads to an estimated loss of Rs two lakh as three transformers are also damaged in the rural areas of taluk.

Officials added that efforts are underway to repair the damaged electric poles and wires, ensuring the restoration of power supply in Bhatkal after a temporary disruption.

Bailur and Belni suffer the consequences as more than two houses are left damaged in the wake of falling trees.

Bhatkal received an astounding 112.10 mm of rainfall, resulting in a deluge of water throughout the region.

The IMD has issued a red alert for the three coastal districts of Karnataka — Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada — for Wednesday.
