Udupi: Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Vidyakumari expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work on the underpass at Santhekatte and the railway flyover at Indrali on NH 66 and NH 169. In a meeting at the Collectorate Hall in Manipal, she urged senior officers and engineers of the National Highways Department to accelerate construction with good quality for smooth public movement.

Disappointed with the delay of the Indrali flyover, Dr. Vidyakumari warned of legal action if timely completion wasn't achieved, highlighting the inconvenience and frequent accidents caused. Similar concerns were raised about the Santhekatte underpass construction, prompting her to demand better quality and faster progress from contractors and developers.

She emphasized the need to prioritize efficient upgrading of existing National Highways with good quality, acknowledging the public's distress while navigating these incomplete projects. Collaboration between departmental and National Highways authorities was advised to address land acquisition challenges for the Coastal Bypass-Malpe road widening project, facilitating its swift initiation.

Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar advocated for a service road on NH 66 near Sanur Gram Panchayat, emphasizing its urgent implementation to ease public burden. He also called for expedited construction of the bridge near Sanur.

District Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K, Municipal Commissioner Rayappa, National Highways Authority Project Director Abdullah Mohammad Azmi, departmental officials, contractors, and others attended the meeting.
