Udupi gears up to conduct polls in five Assembly constituencies

Udupi (DHNS): The district is all set to conduct elections in its five Assembly constituencies on May 10, Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M said on Wednesday.

There are 10,29,678 voters as on March 29. The number of voters is expected to increase with the inclusion of voters into the list (until April 11, 2023).

There are 4,96,863 males, 5,32,795 women and 20 transgender voters. The number of Persons with Disability (PWD) voters is 11,751 (6,531 are male voters and 5,220 are women voters), the DC said.  

Kurma Rao said there are 31,268 electors above the age of 80 and 17,927 young voters in the district. As many as 34,787 EPIC cards for PVC voters had been delivered by post. There are 246 polling booths in the Byndoor Assembly constituency, 222 in Kundapura, 226 in Udupi, 208 in Kaup and 209 in the Karkala Assembly constituency, he added.

Two identification cards, approved by the Election Commission, should be submitted at the time of voting, he said.

He said there are 15 video surveillance teams, 45 flying squads, 17 static surveillance teams, 92 sector officer teams, five video viewing teams, five MCC nodal officers and five account expenditure teams to unearth the malpractices taking place during the elections.

Check posts have been upgraded in Shiroor, Kollur and Hosangadi in Byndoor,  Haladi, Kandlur and Thekatte in Kundapura,  Nejaru, Balaipade Udyavara and Alevoor in Udupi, Katpadi, Hejmadi, Mudubelle and Anjaru in Kaup, Nadpalu, Someshwara, Sanoor, Muratthangadi, Edu, Hosmer and Belmannu in Karkala respectively.  The DC said physically challenged and senior citizens, with the help of Form 12D, should mention their choice on postal voting. Polling booths will have elderly- and disabled-friendly facilities, he added.
