Udupi: Udupi Lokayukta police have arrested the secretary of Kavaradi Gram Panchayat, Gopal Devadiga, for accepting a bribe in connection with the Basava housing project.

The arrest comes after Javed from Kavaradi, who had applied for the Basava housing scheme, filed a complaint alleging that Gopal Devadiga demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 from him. Unwilling to pay the bribe, Javed reported the incident to the Udupi Lokayukta police.

Responding promptly, the Lokayukta police registered a case and set a trap, leading to the arrest of Gopal Devadiga while accepting the bribe.
