Udupi: The Udupi police have successfully recovered the knife used by Praveen Chaugule (39), the prime accused in the Udupi's Nejaru murder case involving four members of the same family.

During the interrogation, efforts were made to locate the weapon used in the crime.

Initially, the accused provided misleading information, claiming that he had discarded the knife from a bridge on the Udupi to Mangalore route. Later, he changed his statement, stating that he had disposed of it near his residence in Mangalore.

Based on this updated information, a search was conducted at his Bejai flat, resulting in the discovery of the knife used in the crime. Additionally, the police have reportedly seized various items, including the mask worn during the crime, blood-stained clothing, and the vehicle used in the incident.

The knife and other evidence related to the crime were confiscated yesterday and today. Further details will be disclosed upon the completion of the ongoing investigation, as stated by Dr. K. Arun, SP, Udupi.

On November 15, Praveen Chowgule was arrested by the police in Kuduchi, Belgaum, and presented in court on November 16. Subsequently, he was remanded to police custody for 14 days.
