Karwar: To ensure public safety, the Deputy Commissioner has issued a temporary order suspending the movement of vehicles in the four-lane National Highway-66 tunnel connecting London Bridge and Binaga on Sunday.

As a result, traffic police have erected barricades near Binaga in Uttara Kannada district, effectively closing the highway leading to the tunnel.

The decision to issue this order stems from the failure of the IRB company to provide a safety certificate for the tunnel. Recent heavy rainfall in the district has caused water from a nearby hill to overflow onto the tunnel road, inconveniencing the public.

During a meeting presided over by the district minister, it was noted that the IRB company had not obtained the necessary safety certification for the tunnel. Deputy Commissioner Prabhuling Kavalikatti stated that, in compliance with the minister's instructions, vehicular movement through the tunnel will remain prohibited until the safety certificate is submitted.
