Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association and the Mangaluru City Police have launched a safety awareness campaign for private bus drivers and conductors in the city. The campaign was launched in response to a tragic incident in which a bus conductor lost his life after falling from a moving bus.
As part of the campaign, bus owners and the police will be conducting awareness programs and enforcing rules against footboard travel. Bus drivers and conductors will be instructed to prevent anyone from traveling on the footboard, and if they see anyone dangerously hanging from the bus, the bus driver should immediately halt the bus and ensure that passengers board safely.
The campaign will also focus on other safety measures, such as the use of loud music and shrill horns, which are prohibited on buses. All crew members will be required to wear uniforms, and buses should make stops only at designated bus stops.
The police have also warned that anyone found violating the safety guidelines will be fined. The campaign is expected to improve safety for commuters and prevent accidents.
