Mangaluru: Over the past 30 days, a total of 21 cases have been filed against individuals responsible for posting inflammatory and communal messages on various social media platforms, according to Mangaluru Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain. The police are currently conducting investigations into these cases.
Addressing the media, Commissioner Jain issued a stern warning regarding the consequences that await those who engage in religiously sensitive messaging or propagate communal sentiments.
"We have observed a significant increase in the circulation of communal messages on platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other applications," Jain stated. "Our social media cells in all police stations are closely monitoring individuals who post, share, or comment on messages that are divisive in nature, regardless of the religion involved."
Jain emphasized that individuals who violate the law will face legal consequences, and strict action will be taken against repeat offenders.
Last month, Mangaluru established an anti-communal wing dedicated to curbing moral policing, hate speech, and monitoring social media platforms. This specialized unit has already begun operations in the city, aiming to maintain social harmony and combat divisive messaging.
